West Ham have reached agreement with Dutch giants Ajax over the loan signing of striker Miralem Sulejmani.

The 21-year-old Serbian has agreed terms with the Hammers, but his move is now subject to a work permit hearing.

"West Ham will make no further comment until the result of that hearing is known," read a club statement.

Sulejmani joined Ajax from Heerenveen in the summer of 2008 for a fee of about £13.5m but failed to make an impact, scoring 12 goals in 68 games.

Sulejmani, who missed out on a place in Serbia's World Cup squad, will work alongside countryman Zeljko Petrovic, who is manager Avram Grant's assistant at Upton Park.

New West Ham boss Grant has already swooped for Thomas Hitzlesperger, Pablo Barrera, Frederic Piquionne, Tal Ben Haim and Winston Reid this summer.

West Ham finished 17th last season, only one spot above the relegation places, and sacked former manager Gianfranco Zola in May.
