TEAM NEWS

Leeds may hand a debut to Arsenal loanee Sanchez Watt, who could replace injured midfielder Robert Snodgrass.

Patrick Kisnorbo and Billy Paynter are also sidelined by injury, while Max Gradel and Davide Somma are suspended.

Derby trio Gareth Roberts, Russell Anderson and Dean Leacock should play despite picking up knocks in the friendly defeat by Birmingham.

Shaun Barker, Stephen Pearson and Steve Davies are ruled out by knee injuries, while Miles Addison has a foot problem.

MATCH PREVIEW

It was a final-day defeat at Derby that brought the curtain down on Leeds' relegation from the second tier in 2007, so it is fitting that the Rams provide the opposition as Championship football returns to Elland Road.

Of the two sides, the bookies rate newly-promoted Leeds as the better bet for promotion. The big question at Elland Road is whether fans saw their side's true colours in the first or second half of last season. The Whites were unstoppable up to Christmas, winning 17 of their first 23 league games.

However, they went off the boil spectacularly following the shock FA Cup win at Manchester United, and only narrowly clinched promotion after losing nine times in 2010. The loss of Jermaine Beckford, who contributed 31 goals in all competitions last season before moving to Everton, is also a blow.

Inconsistency plagued Derby in 2009/10. The Rams spent most of the campaign looking nervously over their shoulder at the relegation zone but beat both Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, who finished first and third respectively.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

• Derby have won their last three games against Leeds in all competitions.

• Leeds' last win against Derby was a 3-1 victory in September 2005, when current Rams striker Rob Hulse netted a hat-trick.

606: DEBATE

Leeds

• The Yorkshire club have won all six of their opening day fixtures since relegation from the Premier League in 2004.

• They have not lost their first match of the league season since 1989, when Newcastle beat them 5-2 at St James' Park in a Division Two match.

• Leeds won 25 league games last season, one fewer than the previous campaign, when they missed out on automatic promotion by two places.

Derby

• The Rams are starting a league campaign away from home for the first time in six seasons.

• Last season they beat Peterborough 2-1 in their first fixture. It was the first time in seven years the Rams had kicked off a league campaign on a winning note.

• They won only three of 23 league games away from Pride Park in 2009/10, compared to 12 on home turf.

MANAGERS' VIEW

Leeds boss Simon Grayson: "We are playing with less pressure in some respects having had that expectancy of promotion in League One, but believe me the pressure is still there to push on to the next level. We are all setting our sights on the Premier League."

Derby boss Nigel Clough: "We will learn a bit more about the players on Saturday when some of the younger ones go to Elland Road in front of nearly a full house.

"It will be a test of character, that's for sure. We hope we have got more of the right type of characters now but we won't really know until we get into the season."
