Australian left-hander Chris Rogers has informed Derbyshire he will not be returning to the club in 2011 after accepting an offer from Middlesex.
The 33-year-old joined Derbyshire in 2008, and has since scored 14 centuries and a total of 3,873 runs in the first-class game.
Earlier this month he relinquished his role as club captain to Greg Smith.
"I am sad to leave as I feel I became a part of the side here and have forged some great relationships," he said.
Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris added: "Chris has been a great player, captain and ambassador for the past three years and I would like to thank him for all he has done during his time with us.
"He has been a great professional and a consistent scorer of big runs. He leaves the club with our very best wishes."
