Australia call for teen Hazlewood

Teenage pace bowler Josh Hazlewood has received a surprise call-up to the Australia squad for next month's Test series in India.

Also selected is fellow fast bowler Peter George, who is yet to make his international debut.

Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin misses out with an elbow injury, although he could play in the subsequent one-day series.

Opener Phillip Hughes, who dislocated his shoulder in May and underwent surgery, has been recalled.

New South Wales bowler Hazlewood, 19, played for Australia in June's first one-day international against England at the Rose Bowl, taking the wicket of Craig Kieswetter to finish with 1-41 from seven overs.

He has played just six first-class games after making his debut in a tour match against New Zealand just under two years ago.

George, 23, was an unused member of the Australia squad that drew 1-1 with Pakistan in the Test series in England in July.

Tim Paine will be behind the stumps for Australia, but team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said Haddin, who missed the Pakistan series with the injury, is making good progress with his rehabilitation.

"He is due to commence restricted batting in the next few weeks but will not be available to play in the Test component," he said.

"He is on track to be available for club cricket and for New South Wales with the possibility of being available for selection in the India or Sri Lanka one-day international series."

National selection panel chairman Andrew Hilditch said: "The squad we have selected sees the return from injury of Phillip Hughes and includes a very good mix of experience and new young talent with Steven Smith, Hughes and two young fast bowlers in Peter George and Josh Hazlewood.

"All these exciting young players have the potential to have a big impact in international cricket for many years and we are confident they will all equip themselves well if the opportunity presents itself on this tour."

The two Tests for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will take place from 1 October in Mohali and 9 October in Bangalore.

They will then have a three-match one-day series in Kochi (17 October), Visakhapatnam (20 October) and Goa (24 October).
