Europe delayed their second round of Ryder Cup practice after heavy overnight rain was followed by further downpours at Celtic Manor on Wednesday.

They went out at 1030 BST instead of 0830 BST in the hope of the conditions improving, but the United States team began playing on schedule at 0845 BST.

For Europe, Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy are paired up again, as are Edoardo and Francesco Molinari.

World number three Lee Westwood will play with Ross Fisher.

Westwood and Fisher play with wildcard Padraig Harrington and Peter Hanson while Luke Donald and Martin Kaymer are in a group with McDowell and McIlroy.

Ian Poulter is with Miguel Angel Jimenez against the Molinari brothers.

United States skipper Corey Pavin is obviously keen for his players to get used to the inclement conditions that they may have to deal with when the competition begins on Friday.

And his pairings on Wednesday indicate that world number one Tiger Woods would be paired with Steve Stricker on the opening day.

The duo, who won four points out of four in the Presidents Cup last year, are together for the second day running and are alongside 21-year-old Rickie Fowler and Jim Furyk.

World number two Phil Mickelson is with Dustin Johnson, with the pair playing Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton.

Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar are together once more and are playing with Zach Johnson and Hunter Mahan.

The poor weather is set to continue for the rest of the week, with rain forecast until mid-afternoon on Friday while there are expected to be isolated showers during Sunday with steadier rain likely by evening.

Although the outlook for Saturday is slightly better, there is a chance of fog in the morning.
