    MATCH PREVIEW

Manchester City may have announced huge financial losses off the pitch, but on it there are signs that the club's expensive signings are finally starting to bond.

You never know what type of team they can put out... they can probably put two Premier League teams out if they wanted, that is how much quality they have in depth

    Chris Hughton, Newcastle manager

City remain unbeaten at Eastlands this season, having played five home games in all competitions. A rescued point in the Europa League against Juventus keeps them joint top of their group alongside Poland's Lech Poznan.

Carlos Tevez has shown further signs of being a major asset since being made City skipper. His net gain against champions Chelsea last weekend saw the club turnover a profit to the tune of three league points.

His compatriot Fabricio Coloccini has a point to prove after being overlooked for the Argentinean World Cup squad. The Newcastle defender has targeted a return to the international fold and has an added incentive to keep his in-form countryman quiet, with millions of fans expected to watch the game back home.

He is not the only player on display hoping to make an impression. New City signing James Milner lines up against one of his former clubs, while Magpies midfielder Joey Barton was booed on his return to Eastlands in 2009, before leaving the field with a broken foot. Ex-Newcastle keeper Shay Given will again watch on from the bench.

    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

    • A City win would give them a 50th all-time league win against the Magpies. Newcastle have 64 wins in this fixture.

    • It is now over a decade since Newcastle's last win away at City. Alan Shearer scored the winner in a 1-0 victory at Maine Road in September 2000.

    • City are seven games unbeaten against Newcastle since Michael Owen bagged the only goal at St James' Park in September 2005.

    • It is 117 years ago this month since these sides met for the first time. The Magpies won 3-2 at City in the old second division.

    606: DEBATE

    Man City

    • City have conceded only two league goals this season, the equal best record along with Chelsea.

    • Four-goal Carlos Tevez has scored over half of City's seven league goals to date. Yaya Youre, Gareth Barry and Patrick Vieira have supplied the other three, making City's list of scorers this season the equal shortest in the league.

    Newcastle

    • The Magpies have not lost in three away games since an opening day defeat across Manchester at Old Trafford.

    • Newcastle are one win short of 250 Premier League victories. If successful they will become only the seventh club to achieve this landmark.

    • Chris Hughton's side have failed to score more than one goal in five of their six league games to date. The exception is the 6-0 win over Aston Villa.
