Prop Sam McKendry will make his Test debut for New Zealand in Saturday's Four Nations match against Papua New Guinea at Rotorua.

McKendry and Frank-Paul Nuuausala replace Adam Blair and Greg Eastwood in the front row, while Simon Mannering and Sika Manu form the second row.

Winger Sam Perrett will start his 17th Test in place of Manu Vatuvei.

Papua New Guinea's Johnson Juike, James Nightingale and Charlie Wabo take their places in the pack.

Kiwis coach Steve Kearney has backed McKendry to shine.

"Sam has worked really hard and earned his first Test," said the coach.

"He played strongly for the New Zealand Maori against England two weeks ago and has kept working to put himself in line to be selected. Everyone's excited for him that he now has his chance."

New Zealand opened their Four Nations campaign by beating England 24-10 last weekend while PNG were beaten 42-0 by Australia.
