The future of the Irish Open has been secured with the news that mobile phone company 3 are to sponsor the event.
Irish sports minister Martin Cullen is understood to have played a major role in securing the deal which has still be to be officially confirmed.
It is believed the new sponsorship will be for at least three years and that the Irish Open will return to the Mount Juliet course in County Kilkenny.
The tournament has not had a main title sponsor since 2002.
The Irish Open, one of the European Tour's oldest events, is scheduled for 14-17 May, 2009.
It was staged at Adare Manor for the last two years, with England's Richard Finch winning in 2008.
Mount Juliet hosted the tournament from 1993 to 1995 when it was won by Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer and Sam Torrance.
The American Express World Championship was held there in 2004 and 2004.
Officials at Mount Juliet are believed to be waiting until they can be sure the course will be in top condition before committing to staging the tournament.
